Tips To Avoid Dead Batteries

1. Make sure your lights are off after parking your car.
Obvious, but unfortunately it is still the main reason car batteries die. Make sure both your headlights and interior dome lights are turned off, especially if you have kids who might have turned them on when you weren’t looking.
2. Unplug charging accessories.
This is especially important if you have a history of your battery dying. It might just not be charged all the way and with something as little as a phone charger or a gps charger, no power could be left to start the car. However, even with a good, fully-charged battery, a high voltage consumer might suck a lot of juice out of your battery.
3. Inspect your battery.
Corrosion and acids could prevent a good connection, which could result in the battery not charging properly. Loose bolts could also compromise the battery’s ability to charge.
4. Have your battery checked.
If you have had your battery for over three years, it might be a good idea to stop at your local auto parts store and have them check it- it’s usually free. It is especially a good idea if you start noticing delays in how fast your engine starts. This is a good sign that something unpleasant is coming if left untreated.

Tips On a Safe Car Jump Start Using Jump Start Cable

1. Have a set of jumper cables available at all times in the trunk. This is like a first aid kit to your car, and it is smart to always have them on you. If you don’t have jumper cables, find someone who does and yes, it might be a little embarrassing to ask to borrow those. Most people will understand, though.
2. Find a second vehicle to jump start your vehicle. You might need to ask a few people since some just won’t be available to help. Don’t get frustrated and keep asking around if you have an opportunity. hey might have something important going on and simply can’t spare any time for you. The person who landed the cable most likely will be available to jump start you.
3. Have both vehicles on Park or Neutral with the engine shut off. It might be a good idea to have both cars on parking brakes.
4. Carefully attach the red clip to the positive terminal of your battery, with a “+” sign on it.
5. Do the same to the positive “+” terminal of the other car.
6. Attach black clips to the other car’s negative “-“ terminal, then do the same to your car. Make sure you don’t accidentally touch the positive terminal or the clip!
7. Have the other vehicle stared and let it run for up to five minutes.
8. Start your vehicle. If it won’t start, give it more time, make sure all the lights and electric accessories are off, and start again. If that doesn’t help, your battery might be beyond repair and you will need a towing service to help you move your car to a safe location.

However, if your car starts (most likely), don’t shut if off immediately, because it is still not strong enough to start again by itself. Let the vehicle run for at least twenty minutes, or even better- drive it for as long as you can. The battery will charge itself while your engine is working.
At your first opportunity have your battery checked and if the story repeats again, this is a sign you may need a brand new battery.
